Sea buckthorn…what the heck is that? Sounds like some cantankerous oceanic plant that springs thorny prongs at unsuspecting clown fish!
Thankfully, not the case. Actually, sea buckthorn, or seaberry as it is also called, is a very cold tolerant shrubby bush, fairing temperatures up to a frigid Zone 3! Wowzers, no warm ocean topical water here! Aside from its ability to bear the northern cold, it is also a powerhouse of essential vitamins and nutrients. Not out of laziness, but due to the sheer amount of information promoting sea buckthorn’s health benefits I am going to direct you here and here to let you discern in what ways this tea could potentially help you.
Hmmm, so how does one obtain all these vitamins and minerals…tea of course! Easy peazy, just destem the buckthorn (warning: the stem is quite thorny), dry the leaves and steep. No laborious peeling process, no popping pills, just plop down on the couch for a little evening read, sea buckthorn tea and snuggle with the covers as you treat yourself to a self-care detox and antioxidant boost! Wanna kick it up a notch? Stir in some locally sourced creamed honey and then you will really be living the high life!
As for the flavor…think a mild green tea.

Sea Buckthorn Tea
dried Sea Buckthorn leaves
Set your dried leaves in a tea infuser and pour over hot water.
Let steep between 5-10 minutes. Stir in honey if you’d like and drink.
